“Join the Family - Volunteering at Boca Helping Hands”
By: Melissa Keklik, Volunteer Program Manager
Volunteers are the backbone of Boca Helping Hands; without the hundreds of volunteers that come in and out of our doors each week, we would not be able to carry out our mission. Through their dedication and hard work, we are able to have a direct impact on the clients that we serve within our community.
How does one become a volunteer at Boca Helping Hands, you may ask? There is a process that begins with filling out an application through our website and then attending one of our monthly orientations. Orientations last about one hour, which includes a brief history and overview of the entire organization, a tour and discussing the volunteer opportunities that are available at that specific time.
There are new volunteer orientations coming up on June 12th and July 10th, both at 3pm. For those potential volunteers who cannot attend an orientation, arrangements can be made to tour the facility.
With season coming to an end, we do lose many of our snowbird volunteers, opening up a variety of volunteer opportunities. Although you can find an entire list of opportunities on our website, we are especially in need of volunteers to assist with our Kitchen, Food Center and Resource Center. Volunteers can help prepare and serve a hot, nutritious meal, greet clients and distribute beverages, or work one-on-one with clients through our Children’s Assistance Program. Our goal is to find the right role for every volunteer!
As high school students find themselves in need of community service hours this summer, we encourage them fulfill that requirement with BHH. We welcome students that are 16 years old and above to spend some of their summer break making a difference in their community. Students under 16 years of age are also welcome to volunteer, but need a parent or guardian to join them for their shift.
If you have any questions about our volunteer program, please reach out to me directly at Melissa@bocahelpinghands.org or by phone at (561) 417-0913 ext: 206. We would love to have you come join the best volunteers in all of Palm Beach County!
