Boca Helping Hands is pleased to share that the BHH Backpacks Program for the 2018-2019 school year has officially started. The program kicked off as we welcomed the hardworking ladies from Junior League of Boca Raton. Each Thursday Night a volunteer group of approximately 7 volunteers individually prepares pallets for each of the 9 participating schools.
The following Monday and Tuesday, BHH drivers deliver the sealed pallets of food. Each of the 9 schools has a group of volunteers that "adopt" that school and commit their resources and manpower to pack the backpacks each week.
Over 58% of American school children receive their primary meal each day through the federal free and reduced lunch program. This raises the obvious question: What do these children eat on the weekends? The BHH Backpacks Program addresses the critical problem by sending backpacks home each Friday containing six (6) meals, two (2) shelf stable milks, two (2) juice boxes and three (3) snacks.
Thank you to everyone that gives of their time and contributes funds to help make the BHH Backpacks Program such an impact on those we serve.
