BHH RAISES $130,000 AT OUR MONOPOLY EVENT AND CASINO NIGHT!

Boca Helping Hands held its 5th Annual MONOPOLY Event and Casino Night proved to be its best ever raising $130,000! Mr. MONOPOLY , the Hasbro character portrayed by Leonard Wierzbowski, greeted the guests as they gathered to play MONOPOLY, Texas Holdem, Black Jack and Roulette at The Country Club at Boca Raton. Gary Peters, a two-time National MONOPOLY Champion and President of the Board of Directors at Boca Helping Hands, oversaw the MONOPOLY Tournament.  The five top players were Kent Mayer, David J. Mezzanotte, David Spinola, Alain Troadec and the Grand BHH MONOPOLY Champion Keith Nassetta. Astounding raffle baskets and a live auction and a $20,000 Matching Challenge by the Asofsky Family Foundation met, in 15 minutes, helped Boca Helping Hands achieve a record breaking fundraising event.   

James Gavrilos, Executive Director of Boca Helping Hands, served as MC and auctioneer. North Broward Preparatory School provided entertainment with two of its jazz groups with Dean Eaves as their director. Boca’s Mayor, Susan Whelchel was among the special guests attending as was Mr. Arthur Remillard Jr., who so ably supports our cause. Other dignitaries included Steve Abrams, Palm Beach County Commissioner, Susan Haynie, a BHH Board Member and Deputy Mayor of Boca Raton, and Jeff Koonz, a former PBC Commissioner. With the help of BHH’s MONOPOLY Chairwoman, LouAnn Such, Development Director, Karen Swedenborg; and the many BHH Staff and volunteers; the evening went without a hitch! LouAnn Such, the event Chair, was pleased with both the turn out and the enthusiasm of all of the guests.

Boca Helping Hands is one of the premier charitable organizations in Palm Beach County that helps to provide compassionate service through food and assistance programs to individuals, families and children to instill dignity and break the cycle of dependence. Their programs include a Food Center that serves hot lunch 6 days a week, Monday through Saturday, a Pantry Program, a Job Mentoring program, and a Resource Center. Through Blessings in a Backpack they distribute over 400 back packs filled with food to the children who might not have any other sustenance over the weekend. With over 250 volunteers Helping Hands is successfully achieving its goals.
