Hi Greg, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a first-generation immigrant to the US from Jamaica (now a “foreigner” in both countries). I’ve enjoyed a fulfilling corporate career in a few Fortune 500 companies based in Florida. Five years ago, the Board of Boca Helping Hands asked me to lead the organization on an “interim” basis while they searched for a permanent Executive Director. Boca Helping hands is a multi-service community organization that provides a range of services to underserved members of the community (hunger relief, job training, medical care, emergency financial assistance). Five years later, I am still here…by choice. It has been a great privilege to have the opportunity at the tail end of my career, to serve my community in this role. My wife and I have two daughters and three grandchildren.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overcoming the stereotypical perception of Boca Raton as a collection of country clubs and gated communities, where no one is struggling to make ends meet.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Our agency serves not only Boca Raton but most of southern Palm Beach County.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We receive broad community support from individuals (volunteers and donors), corporations, and partner agencies. We are always looking for additional support in the form of volunteers, financial contributions or donations of food. The work we do is only possible with the overwhelming support that we receive from all segments of our community.
