After leaving her job to become the primary caregiver for both her parents and three children, Taneka was at a crossroads with her career. Then, she heard about BHH's Job Training Program and learned that the Medical & Billing Program was fully online, compatible with her situation.
Having worked in medical records for five years at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, she already knew she wanted to pursue a professional career in medical coding but lacked the financial means.
"When I first came in [to Boca Helping Hands], I was at the most vulnerable point in my life," says Taneka. "Everyone there was so positive and believed in me when I didn't believe in myself."
Since passing her exam, Taneka has been meeting with a BHH Job Mentor to update her resume and navigate interview opportunities. She hopes to continue her education with specialty coding certification for oncology and cardiology.
Taneka adds, "Thank you to everyone, including the staff and donors. This experience has been amazing."
