Boca Helping Hands 2010 Newsletters

On Saturday January 16, 2010 the red ribbon strung across the front doors of the Remillard Family Resource Center was ceremoniously cut by Boca Helping Hands Board President Gary Peters and Lead Donor Arthur J. Remillard, Jr. to mark the Grand Opening of the new home of Boca Helping Hands. Volunteers, donors and dignitaries all gathered to celebrate this historic day and the efforts being made to combat hunger and homelessness in our community.

As we enter the final weeks of 2010, it is time to sit back and take stock. Sometimes, we are so immersed in the day to day operations, we lose sight of the bigger picture.

Last month, Boca Helping Hands was unexpectedly honored with a $100,000 grant from the Sun Capital Partners Foundation, Inc.. The donation came after a committee of representatives from Sun Capital Partners, Inc., a Boca Raton-based global private equity fi rm, conducted a rigorous review of leading local charities and was announced in a surprise meeting in July during which Executive Director, Jim Gavrilos and Development Director, Brooke Pickett, were invited to sit down with the Sun Capital team. It was at that meeting that Boca Helping Hands learned it would be one of two local charities to receive the $100,000 grant from Sun Capital (The Haven, Inc. is the other recipient).
