Volunteer Spotlight: Alexis J.

August 20, 2021

During the height of the pandemic last April, Alexis Johnson started volunteering at our main facility in East Boca Raton, assisting with client check-in and registration. She's recently transitioned into our Team Lead at the West Boca pantry bag distribution, the volunteer point person who manages the drive-thru setup, client intake, and paperwork.

Johnson is originally from New York and moved to Boca Raton about two years ago when the company she works for relocated to South Florida. She made it a goal for herself to find a way to give back to her new neighbors and community. She said that the inspiration to volunteer stems from her parents, both of whom worked in public service their entire professional lives. As she follows in their footsteps, her passion for helping people only grows stronger.

"It's been such a wonderful and eye-opening experience, and it's something I look forward to every week," she said. "I have been able to meet people from so many different walks of life, and I would do anything for [the clients]: they're good people."

Johnson says volunteering with BHH has prompted her to find more ways to incorporate philanthropy into her life. She was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for the Friends of the Boca Raton Public Library, and she's even taking graduate courses in non-profit management starting this fall.

We thank Alexis Johnson for her drive and dedication to our mission and clients. We're lucky to have her as part of our volunteer team!
