Volunteer Spotlight: John W.

John's a longtime member of Advent Lantana Church, one of our satellite food distribution locations which opened in June 2020.

He helps us out by directing traffic flow to ensure both volunteers and clients alike are safe. Since this location opened 10 months ago, he's only missed one Saturday. He says, "I love doing it - I don't care if it's hot, cold, windy, rainy, I will be there every single time because I love to help people."

He says he feels a sense of fulfillment that he's helping his fellow man and references the biblical commandment of "love thy neighbor as thyself" as part of his inspiration. He's also very grateful and realizes that it could just as easily be the other way around.

John is very motivated to take our Lantana location to the next level through tech improvements. For example, he's working on writing a program to train volunteers on client intake and has even donated an iPad to help speed up the process.
