Volunteer Spotlight: Valentina F.

Happy National Intern Day to our fantastic intern Valentina! She's a pre-med student at Dartmouth College, double majoring in French and biology, and will be starting her sophomore year this fall.

Her family is originally from Puerto Rico but relocated to South Florida after two major hurricanes struck Puerto Rico in 2017.

Valentina heard about Boca Helping Hands through a family friend and reached out to us to coordinate an internship. Her mother Lucia and younger brother Gabriel are also volunteers at BHH and help out in our warehouse packing pantry bags of groceries.

In the past few weeks, Valentina has become an asset to our Job Training Program in contacting interested applicants, helping students practice their interview skills, and providing resume-building support.

Valentina says her internship highlight so far has been helping students craft their resumes, and specifically a Commercial Driver's License student who was very grateful for her expertise.

"I've been very blessed, and all of my accomplishments are a product of the opportunities I've been given," says Valentina. "If I am able to use all of those skills that I've learned to help someone that hasn't been as fortunate, then why not do it?"

We are lucky to have her on our team for the summer and will miss her when she heads back to college.
