Volunteer Spotlight: Nancy V.

November 1, 2021

After selling her family business, Nancy Varian was eager to give back to her community. She began volunteering regularly at Boca Helping Hands in 2018, and since then, she has given back over 1,200 hours of her time as an administrative assistant in our Job Training department.

Her strong work ethic, creative thinking, and collaborative nature have brought innovation to our job training recruitment process.

“Nancy is a gift to Boca Helping Hands,” said Trina Chin Cheong, Director of Job Training & Career Development. “She has the heart to serve and understands that volunteering is about working toward something bigger than yourself.”

In addition to her work with BHH, Nancy also has more than 30 years of volunteer experience with other local organizations, including ARC Adult Day Care Center (where she taught exercise classes), Mantas Recreational Swim Team at Meadows Park Pool (where she helped organize and run summer swim meets), and First Care Women’s Clinic (where she volunteered as a sonographer).

In 2016, she became a co-leader of an Advent Church ministry team that offers confidential care and support to people who are experiencing a life crisis. She also presently serves on the Advisory Council of Kairos Outside, an organization that helps women who have incarcerated loved ones.

In recognition of her outstanding dedication to our Job Training Program and its students – as well as for being a strong advocate for BHH within our community – Boca Helping Hands has nominated Nancy Varian as our 2021 candidate to be the Junior League of Boca Raton’s Women Volunteer of the Year.
