Joe Nazaire’s journey to becoming a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) holder is a testament to resilience and determination. Originally from Haiti, Joe moved to Florida in 2005 and began working as a certified mechanic specializing in Toyota and Lexus vehicles in 2014 for six years. However, when the pandemic struck in 2020, Joe found himself out of work, searching for a new path forward.
Friends who had transitioned to truck driving spoke highly of the profession’s opportunities, inspiring Joe to pursue his CDL. A friend introduced him to Boca Helping Hands’ Job Training Program, which he quickly applied for. Joe enrolled in the program in 2021, utilizing his mechanical background to excel in the technical aspects of CDL training.
After earning his CDL in late 2021, Joe began driving commercially in early 2022. Initially, he took long-haul cross country routes, gaining experience on the road. However, his desire to remain close to his family and community in Florida led him to switch to local driving. Joe now works with Ester’s Express Lines, transporting goods within Palm Beach and Broward counties.
The shift to truck driving has been life-changing for Joe. “I make more than I ever did in any job before,” he shared. He takes pride in his work, noting that the job combines his love for driving with financial stability. Occasionally, his routes bring him back to Boca Helping Hands, where he reflects on the program that opened this door.
“Boca Helping Hands helped me get the job I have today,” Joe said. “It made a big change in my life.”
Joe’s story showcases the power of community support and the transformative impact of seizing new opportunities.
